Carnelian Energy Capital Management, L.P. is a private equity firm that invests in lower- and middle-market energy companies in North America, focusing on the upstream, midstream and oilfield services sectors. It has raised approximately $4.7 billion in cumulative capital commitments, and as of October 2025 it had partnered with 39 portfolio companies. That capital spans five flagship funds and a $600 million Canada-focused vehicle, Carnelian Acquisition and Development, L.P., which closed in 2025. The most recent flagship fund, the $975 million Carnelian Energy Capital V, closed in February 2024. At its launch, Carnelian targeted investments requiring between $35 million and $75 million of equity capital, and its commitments have grown with each fund since. The firm invests mainly in oil and natural gas exploration and production across major U.S. basins, Western Canada and the Gulf of Mexico, and selectively in midstream and oilfield services businesses. Its investment activities include equity line-of-credit commitments to newly formed management teams, growth equity for companies with existing assets, recapitalizations, and acquisition-and-development strategies. Carnelian backs experienced entrepreneurial management teams, often repeat partners, and focuses on low-risk development drilling and on buying and improving producing assets. It offers deep industry relationships, structuring expertise and a flexible, opportunistic approach. The firm is led by Partners Tomas Ackerman and Daniel Goodman. Carnelian Energy Capital was founded in 2015 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas, United States.
