AOL Media LLC is an internet media and digital services company that provides news aggregation, lifestyle content, email services, instant messaging, and online gaming and entertainment products to consumers. The company operates web portals and digital properties covering news, finance, sports, entertainment, and lifestyle content, along with email and web-based services. AOL originated as Quantum Computer Services in 1985 providing online services to personal computer users, expanded significantly during the growth of internet adoption in the 1990s, and became one of the largest internet service providers in the United States with millions of subscribers. The company merged with media conglomerate Time Warner in January 2001 to form AOL Time Warner, a $350 billion transaction at the time, but the merger was unwound in 2009. AOL was subsequently owned by Verizon Communications from 2015 before being sold to private equity firm Apollo Global Management in May 2021. In 2025, AOL was being acquired by Italian software company Bending Spoons. The company was founded in 1985 and is headquartered in New York, New York, United States.
